In Your Feelings (111,777) by T from USA I think IYF is the only shot she could have at saving this era with a song. But it needs a duet, it needs Bruno Mars. It's the only song on the album that is fresh in a way that it doesn't sound exactly like something she's done before but it at the same time it slightly harkens back to her glory 2005 days. Thoughts on the marketing theme for HFIA album (111,774) by T from USA I noticed the CD insert booklet has a theme of diamonds on every page. She's also wearing a giant diamond on the cover and the CD itself showcases her diamond butterfly ring. Was this a purposely chosen theme or is this just a case of not having a strong idea so diamonds are a girls best friend? Butterfly had the theme of butterflies on the album artwork, Rainbow had rainbows. Could she possible mean she's here for it all the diamonds? (Thursday 9 October 2025; 03:56)

I mean, it was in Gamma's own press release at the start of this album era that said they wanted big success including more #1's from Mariah. Whether they were expecting it for this album or the next who knows. But she did get back on the Hot 100. I'm not sure if that counts as success to them. I wonder if she would've just kept the best of these songs and worked a little more on new ones and went for an Emancipation 3 moment would have that made a difference in the sales? I'm also starting to see people say they have stopped playing this album a lot less already and I'm thinking, wow seven years to make an album and people can't even spin it for more than seven days? Mariah and Gamma (111,769) by BFF from United States I think a lot of recording artists make the mistake of believing that producing art alone is enough. The music industry is a business and that means turning some kind of profit is necessary. If you want something to be successful, you have to work hard for it. In the major label system, artists often complain about being exploited and sometimes they are. But the reality is that the record companies invest a lot of money in the artists. So some level of discomfort has to be tolerated in order to ensure a project's success. Mariah worked really hard in the early 1990s producing some stuff that the label wanted and some stuff that she was passionate about. The commercial clout she built allowed her to pivot to passion projects from 1997-2001 with some great (Butterfly) and not-so-great (Glitter) results. Gamma's leadership can talk endlessly about being "independent" and nurturing artists, but it will not be a successful enterprise if it continues investing money in projects without delivering numbers to support the infrastructure of the company. And I'm sure investors will begin pulling out if Gamma continues with a poor track record. The "Type Dangerous" video looked expensive to me. Why invest all of that money into the first single, drop the ball with "Sugar Sweet", and release the album right before Mariah pivots to international tour dates for "The Celebration of Mimi" and a Vegas Residency for Christmas? Dallas Austin (111,763) by T from USA It's definitely a theory. Which I asked for. But not one hundred percent convinced that's it. Although, what else could it be? She did work with Babyface on When You Believe in 1998, that was four years after Bedtime Stories. (But she also had a little bit of history with him so maybe that's why.) I couldn't picture Dallas Austin on Butterfly but he would've fit in perfectly on Rainbow because Mariah was still straddling the lines of pop/r&b and it was also when Dallas was giving the girls like TLC their biggest hits. The last time I heard of anything of note from Austin was in 2003, right before TEOM, when he produced Janet's massive comeback single but unfortunately the Superbowl incident cut it short. However, MC and Madonna began exchanging disparinging remarks towards each other in late 1995. Dallas Austin's greatest chance to work with MC was 1996-1999. MC probably didn't consider Dallas Austin for Butterfly or Rainbow because she didn't want to feed the media more reasons to pit the two up against each other in some competition or comparison. Dallas Austin, Babyface, Dave Hall, and Nellee Hopper kind of helped Madonna reinvent herself with Bedtime Stories and regain her fans back. What club hopping gay man didn't love her song Secret. Maybe that's the benefit on not being on a major label forcing you to advertise for producers. It makes the songs sound more timeless. Einstein has that dated producer tag sound. The songs on HFIA are all great, some even say amazing. But there is no world wide recognized hit that made an impact. Mariah's always had hits, the times she didn't were Glitter, Charmbracelet, and Caution. Those are also her lowest sales. So she sold this new album on her name alone, like Taylor Swift. I guess a new artist can debut high because it literally is all about the music, but as an act reaches their sixteenth album all everyone cares about is everything else. Mariah needs to be part of a major label #7 51,000 (111,693) by T from USA I was worried about her signing to gamma and my worries were correct. It surely was a way to connect to what moves records these days which is streaming, particularly at Apple. The only problem with that is it was a big gamble as Mariah isn't, and probably never will be a streaming artist. Her strength is physical sales and unfortunately being independent meant many countries, many stores from Canada to Spain, just didn't have the album in stock. I'm not mad about the first week sales but I am disappointed. It was in her hands, and she did decently but what about actually singing some of these great songs on tv? Like Jimmy Kimmel and America's got Talent literally were both ratings hits the week her album came out. Why didn't she book onto these shows way ahead of time and sing HFIA? Help please (HFIA booklet) (111,680) by Randy from USA Y'all know I have been Mr. Negative for years on this board. I hate to give up that title but Mariah has really dialed it in this time. The album is wonderful, check my profile for the full review I did. I haven't played an MC album this much during the first week since Memoirs. In addition, she has run around everywhere promoting tirelessly. If the numbers disappoint, Gamma can't blame MC. She looks great, has been grinding and turned in a wonderful piece of art. And to see her in blazers and not mermaid gowns. She stopped traffic on Jennifer Hudson with the blazer and leather pants, hair and make up flawless. This is an amazing roll out and I am proud of MC. I would like to take this time to apologize for calling her a whistling Christmas Jessica Rabbit relic. (Friday 3 October 2025; 01:09)

Top of Billboard 200 HFIA (111,675) by T from USA In my eyes HFIA is the #1 album this week on the BB200. It's the best selling album which should be the only factor anyway. Think of how many people like me are spinning the album on CD and it's not adding to her streaming numbers. I'v played it enough times to make ten album sales just from me. I have an idea, albums and songs shouldn't be eligible for streaming sites until they have passed 6 months in the physical and digital relm. That would be the best of both worlds, sales can still be sales and music can still be accessible especially artists' older albums. But at least eras would last six months while the artist try to increase sales. Numbers could still increase because of streaming but only after the song is six months old. My only gripe with these people not fulfilling her creative vision is that if it were Beyonce I'm sure they would all say yes. Anyway, I'm glad we got a solo My Love because it fits in line with all her other white guy covers from those decades. I don't know if I would want her Butterfly Lounge voice on an MJ classic. There's always going to be a bit of current R&B/pop in a Mariah album, even if the rest draws on old school influences throughout. Head scratcher (111,551) by BFF from United States I actually think "Type Dangerous" works quite well as a single and in the context of the album, and it really grew on me. The "Eric B. Is President" sample helps maintain the '70s vibe because the original record by Eric B. and Rakim utilizes samples from several '70s funk songs like "Funky President" by James Brown. I believe it was recorded after Mariah and Anderson's initial sessions. "Sugar Sweet", on the other hand, does feel out of place on the album. In previous interviews, it sounded like Mariah was reticent to include it, so maybe she did it at the suggestion of Gamma, L.A. Reid, etc. They probably pulled in the guest artists out of a desire to be more current because the rest of the album is not current at all. (Saturday 27 September 2025; 14:37)
