GTFO (83,798)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Here's how I see it all playing out. Mariah is coming back bigger and better than ever. The first offering GTFO is great. I can imagine how much hype this song and video would've gotten had she not recreated the breakup theme so many times in the past few years (You're Mine, Infinity, I Don't) with all the videos being similar as well. If she had stayed away since MCIIY and having kids with Nick and then came back with GTFO this year (eight years later looking like that) it would've blown the minds off of everybody but at this point if feels like she's a little over saturated. The disgruntled diva has been played a lot. At least now she's less victim and that started with Stella and "I Don't". Also, she is hot we know that but how much hotter would've she been in this video if she had jeans and shirt on? When Mariah gets it right with clothes she really gets it right. (I'm looking at you "The roof".) I can only hope that we all share the video and song on all our social medias because sometimes all it takes a person to listen to the song who otherwise wouldn't have to get one more sale. The first single "With You" is going to be massive I can just tell.

Mariah has to go out on top (83,480)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I'm going to write something that might enrage a lot of fans but I think it might be accurate. Mariah's legacy and reputation rests on her leaving the business at the top of her game. Period. She's had two big career defining albums in the past; Butterfly and TEOM. However after both of those albums she never followed up with something as spectacular. After Butterfly she produced Rainbow, Glitter, etc. None of the albums that followed lived up to the quality that was Butterfly. Likewise with all the followups to the TEOM. Now for a moment, imagine a world where Mariah had never released another album after TEOM. Her star would be shinning so bright because of the idea of "what if". Sometimes I think "what if" in regards to Mariah is bigger than the actual product we get. (Butterfly and TEOM are the exceptions). Now I'll go even a step further, for a moment imagine Mariah's final album was Butterfly. Sure we would have missed out on some amazing songs but we would've also missed out on her psychiatric breakdown and the humiliation of Stella. Had her albums ranged from 1990's self titled to Butterfly her record and reputation would've been sealed as one of the best in the history of music. Maybe I'd settle for a happy medium. It would've been nice to have her take eight years off after Butterfly and then come back in 2005 with TEOM and then walk away. But alas here we are again. And I'm afraid that the only sure way Mariah will get her respect is if she has one more career defining album (like Butterfly or TEOM) and then walks away for good. She could still tour the greatest hits but the "what if" factor of another album would always out weight the actual follow up.

Add Madonna, Janet Jackson to that list. It's going to be tight competition this year but I think there's a place for her still in the industry (if she works hard for it).

New single at iHeart festival? (83,246)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Some people think she will use iHeart Radio festival to introduce a new song but that is so un-Mariah to do. Imagine her dismay when she finds out crappy audio recordings from cell phones is the thing people hear first, because the program isn't live and doesn't air for a few weeks after the performance. If she wants to perform something new at iHeart she will indeed release the song long before the festival. I just don't see it happening at this point.

Re: The truth about Walter A (83,179) (83,185)
by T from USA

2009 was ten years ago. Yet she still works with him. I'm just wondering if she's embarrassed for Walter to hear her loss of fluidity and range and maybe that's another barrier to her working with him. Why would she agree to meet with him through Randy Jackson in 2013?

The truth about Walter A (83,170)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Does anyone else think that the real reason she will never try it again with Walter Afanasieff is due to her vocal decline? I mean it was reported that Randy Jackson had set up a meeting between herself and Walter and they met but nothing materialized for MIAMTEC. I wonder if a lot of it has to do with her being incredibly self conscience about her voice. I mean the last time he recorded her singing she was doing things like Butterfly, My All and Lead The Way. It can't be that he's "too stale now" because she continues to work with JD after twenty years. Do you think the truth is it's more ego about the voice and less about the past?

A few windows open still this year (83,118)
by T from USA

She was in the studio during her little time off last night. Maybe this means she's really gearing up. It would be nice if everything is finished so that she could move ahead with a schedule like this: July 20th: first single August 31, September 1, 2, 5, 9, 10: Vegas September 21st: iHeart performance September 28th: album release October 5th: second single October 7th - November 9th: international tour November 11th - 29th: album promo

I tweeted Dave Hall one time asking if he would ever work with Mariah again and he replied that he would love to. So I guess the ball is in MC's court.

I wouldn't mind one or two Jermaine song. As long as it fits with the whole sound of the album. If they choose the best out of the bunch then I'm sure it will be great. No more than two. While we are on it, can't she work with Walter A one more time to so that the album will sound classically Mariah?

Mariah is performing September 21st. This must mean new music right? Not necessarily. I wouldn't mind if she busts out an amazing rendition of Emotions or Always Be My Baby. Good on ROC Nation for booking this.

Mariah promotion Christmas, no new album (82,632)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I have no problem with Mariah taping an interview for upcoming Euro Christmas concerts but why would they air it in June? Mixed brand messaging especially if she wants to sell her Vegas shows. Can't they tape the interview (because she looks hot) but save it for October? This may be the first blunder of ROC Nation if you ask me. Also there is no album coming this year as the People magazine or EW eluded to. And remember, just because Mariah is recording new music doesn't ever mean it will see the light of day. Prince and MJ were constantly working on music that we never heard.

Album delayed (82,546)
by T from USA
| |
|

It crazy that they made a press release saying the album was to come in 2017 and then recent interviews said 2018, but it looks like it may be more like 2019. I wish they would stop saying dates and just release it when it's ready, it's the delays in dates that hurt MIAMTEC.

I just watched the documentary, he seems really bright. His first few songs he did with JB didn't really take off it wasn't until he went back in for a second project did the stuff really click. I know the first time he worked with JLo on "US" it didn't really take off either now he's working with her again. I hope with Mariah it isn't the case that the first time around isn't as great as a follow up. Mariah may not have many chances left in her, she has to get it right the first time.

Mariah late to the party? (82,433)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I know Mariah is at a different place in her life and music then all the others, but she is still trying to compete and I just can't help but feel that her timing is killing her. I mean every singer is releasing something for this summer and if Mariah is working with the same producers (DJ Khaled, etc) her stuff is going to sound so dated by the time she's "ready" to show it off. I'm not saying to rush anything but now if she does have a Khaled collab it will obviously seem like a JLo rip off. Dinero is fire. It always feels like everyone beats Mariah to the punch. Remember the days when Mariah was the trend setter and first to the party with all her new songs. She has no choice but to do something completely different at this point. If she comes with the the same old stuff (JD, BMC) or the producers everyone else is using (DJ Khaled) then she will be so far behind at this point.

Re: Memoirs (82,404) (82,405)
by T from USA

|

Memoirs wasn't a very particularly happy time in Mariah's life. Sure her relationship with Nick was still strong (that we know of) but she was having pregnancy issues and even had a miscarriage which lead to the making of the record. I find Memoirs a cross between Butterfly and Rainbow. However Rainbow had way more features as Memoirs has none. I think it's a smooth R&B album and maybe could've benefited from 12 tracks instead of 14 plus interludes. I would've love if Skydiving produced by Timbaland was somehow incorporated. Anyway I love Memoirs and it was nice to get an album every year of 2008, 2009, 2010, like the old days.

Re: Album? What album? (82,271) (82,278)

Even though she doesn't have Stella she still has new management and they are going to expect her to make money. This is called show business for a reason. Roc Nation signed her and will work for her but she can't just bank on the money in her bank account. She has to make them some new money and unfortunately we are living in the era of touring not album sales. I truly only want one more album/era from Mariah then she can seal her legacy as a touring act as far as i'm concerned. (Had MIAM been a big success I would've been fine with that being her last CD tbh.)

The Butterfly lands (82,262)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I like the title "returns" for a lead up to the album to remind people of Mariah at her best. It also goes with the #1's theme because that was all around the same era 97/98. What I don't think would be a good idea is carrying it over to a new era with a new album. Ever since Memoirs she's been recreating past looks and trying to get off past success. I think she does have one more fresh new era with no ties to the past but a look to the future in her. At least I hope. I think maybe after one more well planned era then she should work on her legacy and past hits.

2014 wasn't that great folks (81,927)
by T from USA
| |

Everyone saying Stella ruined Mariah's career has to take a second look. I'm in no way shape or form a Stella fan but if I remember correctly the three biggest moments of Mariah's career the year before Stella (2014) was her riding on the New York subway in an evening gown, getting booed in Japan, and the Tree Lighting disaster. Those three being her biggest highlights is saying a lot considering it was also a year she released an album.

What goes around comes around (81,926)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I've been a big Mariah fan like forever. I see all the good she has done and the amount of talent she has. But illness or no illness, she let Stella influence her take advantage of James Paker's money and status. And we can always justify it as Mariah being under Stella's control. But it is not the first time Mariah has dated/married someone (see Damizza, Tommy Motolla) for a leg up. She has a history of using people and then dropping them. Now I know this post is going to get a lot of hate, but common sense says a twenty-one year old that starts dating a forty year old married man with kids who runs the label might be after something more than just his good looks. Damizza made a lot of allegations but the one that rung most true was when he said she used him to get on radio. He had that power and she was doing through a moment where her songs were charting because of sales not radio airplay (like Mary J Blige for example). So she smartly (or not smartly) brought him into her inner circle. Now like attracts like and I do believe Stella came into Mariah's life and did the exact same thing to Mariah. And not MC is going to have to pay the piper. Maybe she can sell that ring that she still holds onto from James Paker to pay Stella off.

Mariah's major troubles started last decade when the label decided to skip Migrate in favor for Bye Bye. I can imagine what an era of these singles would've done for her self esteem and mental well-being: TMB, M, IBLYLT, SE.

Butterfly part 2 with Walter Afanasieff (81,845)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
With her new found truth and freedom I would love to see how deep they could go now. I think Butterfly was just the tip of the iceberg. I know a few years ago Walter said Mariah needs help. I wonder if he suspected that she was going through these kind of problems all the way back from 1997. The industry is small and people talk so from what he witnessed being around her plus the gossip he must've heard after 2001 I think he suspected something was wrong. I do think he really cared about her at one time and maybe still does. Mariah's trust issues may never allow them to reunite however.

by T from USA

The only way the memoirs will be of true value is if Mariah goes into that rated R dark place she's eluded too in the past. A true honest account. However as long as she wants a career in the pop world she probably can't write that kind of book. That's why I would hope she just starts the writing of the book but doesn't actually release it until she's well into her sixties and has no more industry ties or pressures to appear a certain way. For now just give us honest and open music that can act as a therapeutic outlet in the same way.

Re: The chasm (81,800) (81,827)
by T from USA

Well in the latest pictures she's still wearing the "engagement ring". I'm not sure anything will really change. I hope I'm wrong because if she still acts the same way she has in the last few years (illness or no illness) people are going to give up on her once and for all. She has to basically go back to her Musicbox, Daydream personality, which was heavily contrived and controlled but it was very acceptable in the public eye. Hopefully the truth she's bared will give her the comfort to just be humble and nice again. On the other hand if she's not sticking with her treatment in the future she may accidentally slip back into her erratic behavior. It explains Daydream's Grammy fight night and the wild bursts with Tommy. I'm sure Tommy's control and stressful behavior didn't help and probably set off her condition but if she wasn't prone to Bipolar in the first place there may be a chance the two of them would still be married to this day. She fled to save her sanity. But was it her sanity that was getting in the way in the first place? She hasn't been able to have long lasting relationships at all. Be it family or friends. I remember when it was said she kicked her long serving manager out of a moving car. The longest relationship I can gather is her and Trey Lorenz. I would love to hear what he has to say and how he has maintained himself on Mariah's good side.
