Nobody stands a chance with the media propaganda that is Taylor Swift. Do not get how she is so big, sorry to any Swifties. She's good but she's no where as good as she's made out to be.

Madonna confession (106,903)
by Shezz from Pk
| |
|
|
Same here Robert Anthony. I think Madonna was a lot of 80's lambs' first love. I too, was obsessed with Papa Don't Preach. My first favourite song ever. And then True Blue, La Isla Bonita and Like A Prayer all her 80s hits.
Then came the 90s. Enter Mariah, and by 1993 I had a new queen. I still loved some of Madonna's 90's music but she could never be my favourite again.
On another note, I miss the make up room acappella Vegas series Mariah started doing in 2019/2020 (I think) of deep cuts like Melt Away and Everything Fades Away. I'd be happy if she even got that Caution era confidence back to sing.

Infinity video (106,898)
by Zachariah from Croatia

Infinity video is ridiculous. It's cheap, tacky and just awful. The recent good-ish video was With You and little bit far away - We Belong Together. Before that - Through The Rain and Honey. Everything else: not worth of mentioning.

While the video looked like it had good budget, it's not a video that I particularly revisit. It at least has a small plot though hahah unlike some of her recent videos. I am craving some decent budget creative videos from Mariah like her TEOM, Butterfly era days also TMB (that video is perfection).

by Bobby A from United States

I have always wondered why Bye Bye, I Stay In Love, and I'll Be Lovin U Long Time all failed to have the same top 10 success as Touch My Body. I just can't pinpoint why pop radio didn't give those singles the same airplay impressions as Touch My Body. Were they weak single choices or pop radio was moving away from playing R&B songs on pop radio? There was a significant shift in pop radio from 2008-2010.

Vacay summer playlist (106,832)
by Zachariah from Croatia
| |

I was wondering - do you have any particular Mariah song or an album that you play more during summer or vacation? A song that is linked with a certain memory that happened during summer, such as, romance, a fling, etc etc.
Loverboy and the whole Glitter album is my jam during summer. I have wonderful memories while driving in my car through Croatian seaside and blasting Loverboy from the speakers. I just turned 21 in 2001 and it was number one on our local chart and it was magical time. Great summer.

Rap features (106,797)
by Bobby A from United States

Do you think MC is done with having rappers on her albums? I don't know how she could be taken seriously on her next album with rap features at 55 years old. Duets and vocal features is the way she should go for MC16. If she goes with some rap features, critics are not going to find it a step in the right direction at her age.

Caution is probably better than TEOM (106,587)
by Zachariah from Croatia
| |
|
|
I have to disagree. Only half of that album is very good and that half carried the sale and success despite the other half. The half that was good: It's like that, We belong together, Shake it off, Say something, Get your number, Don't forget about us and Fly like a bird (but only live version). Makin' It Last All Night from the Platinum edition - also very very good. The other half - boring and rushed. Butterfly album on the other hand - every song is a masterpiece. Caution - it lacked a huge hit but it was a decent rnb album.

Caution is probably better than TEOM (106,581)
by Terna from Nigeria

Um no Sir, just no. The Emancipation Of Mimi was more than just a massive [era], that album literally saved Mariah from being a relic from the 90's, especially after the way her image, reputation and public perception had been dragged through the mud and negatively, intentionally altered by the media, since they held the narrative back then. Basically what they tried so hard to insinuate was that Mariah Carey was now a clown, not to be taken seriously at all. Smh. Until she was not, she deliberately took that narrative back and forced that respect, whether they liked it or not. She needed a monster hit not just a very good song but an undeniable classic, and that's exactly what "We Belong Together" was - a miracle and the kind of magic most artists don't achieve in their careers. This album out of all her other albums is in a lane of its own, and is also a crossing over from Icon to [legendary] status for her. "Caution" is Mariah resting pretty on her laurels safe, secure, untouchable and respected of course, with nothing more to prove. "The Emancipation of Mimi" make no mistake is the main reason for this.

The Rarities 2 expectations (106,563)

Hi guys and gals and everyone in-between. What are you most expecting or hoping for on the unconfirmed Rarities 2 project? Myself, I am looking forward to There For Me to be officially released for streaming. It is such an amazing song, worthy of many people's wedding song from what I've read online. At this point I don't know if it belongs in the Rainbow album or the Glitter soundtrack, but whatever, irregardless, it is a fantastic song and the vocal prowess it took to deliver those notes leave me weak at the knees sometimes. Wow. So what song(s) would you like to see the light of day? Happy Friday's Eve. BTW I love the Portrait remixes, in case you missed it.

BET Awards (106,428)
by Zachariah from Croatia
| |
|
|
I think she is smart with not rushing the album. Look what happened to Justin and J.Lo - people are sick of "old" stars, especially if the material is just bad and boring and not current. Mariah keeps pushing r'n'b sound which has its public but people these days want fast tempo and those Dua Lipa dance light tunes etc etc.
So, either she will put an amazing album which is going to be work of art (right catchy singles, amazing videos) or she is going to swallow her pride and adapt to new trends.

We've seen a bunch of these JLo hate videos recently too, they are making the rounds on social media and YouTube. I actually almost started to feel bad for her but then I remembered what she did to Mimi and I got over that real quick. I hate it for her but we reap what we sow and it's finally caught up to her. This is specially addressed to the Infinity haters. Can you explain to me what you dislike? It went to #82 on Billboard, it was well reviewed but critics, and the orchestration what brilliant. I'm curious why people that hate it, dislike it? My only personal grip is that the orchestration is so hopeful, and the lyrics are diss.

Taylor (106,301)
by Zachariah from Croatia
| |
|
|
Taylor's "cultural impact and craze" on the music industry today is exactly because of that, because she exists today, where social media, marketing manipulations and bombardment with feuds with exes and writing about them is highly accessible.
If she started her career when Mariah started, she would be nowhere. Non existent. Mediocre singer with writing abilities only if she is in a team with 15 more people who are co writing the song.
So please, let's not put Mariah and Taylor in any category together. Ever.

Taylor (106,297)
by Tevin from USA
| |
|
|
Hi Tony, I'm going to assume that you were responding to my post. First of all, I never said Taylor and Mariah were in the same league, especially vocally. I said that they are both known for their song writing, which is true. Second unless someone is living under a rock, there is no denying (whether a person likes it or not) the cultural impact and craze that Taylor has on the music industry today. The only one close to having her impact is Adele, but due to vocal issues, she's been MIA.
Third you may not be a fan of Taylor, I'd even admit that I'm not a fan of her last few albums, but there is no denying that some of her early work (especially the country music, not pop) was quality work, and like Mariah, she has been able to have major success in different music genres.
It may not be your cup of tea, but just like some people didn't or don't like Mariah's music (which I personally think they are crazy for not liking) that doesn't mean that Mariah or her career is trash and the same applies to Taylor. Anyway I'm done talking about Taylor now, since this is a Mariah board, but we shouldn't trash or minimize other people's work, or achievements, just to put Mariah on a pedestal.

She needs a solid pop/r'n'b up tempo song (or 2) - like Fantasy and Honey with chorus that can't be forgotten in 20 minutes. And it has to be released right before summer or early summer to have that impact all over the world.

Not surprised (106,277)
by Bobby A from United States

MC just needs to release a fire album to get recognized by the music industry. She doesn't write the brilliant songs like she used too. If she would find songwriting partners like Madicin (Kenny Lattimore) or Daryl Simmons (Never Forget You) and write some R&B slow jams and love songs, then she would get back on top of the charts. What is it going to take for MC to get back to those brilliant songs?
