About MusicfanJ from Germany: I'm a fan of Mariah since Daydream came out.

Re: Caution next singles (86,584) (86,588) by MusicfanJ from Germany
When I first listened to "Stay Long Love You" I thought the same. The teens and young twens will love it. This song sounds a lot like many songs on the charts and radio stations for the young people.

Re: Giving Me Life (86,492) (86,499) by MusicfanJ from Germany
This song is everything. The last minute is magical. I love the guitar and her high notes so much. "Giving me life" is from the beginning to end a masterpiece. I wonder about who she is singing. Maybe it's just her perfect imagination. I can't get enough of this one. It has this cool roof vibe but even "deeper". Pure genius Mariah.

Re: Mariah sales (86,485) (86,496) by MusicfanJ from Germany
"I think some fans were probably disconnected after the last couple of years."

I think the same. And the general public has problems with her image, "the over-the-top diva". Last year was the only time I really wasn't able to recognize Mariah at all. And I'm a fan since 95. I mean we fans know her diva playing and humor. But what was going on a year ago, was just shocking. Mariah looks so much better and healthier now. Everything changed in a positive way since then. So I'm a bit surprised of the sales too. Anyway I love "Caution". It just gets better by every listen.

That's true. I like Cher a lot. I love when they are playing her hits on the radio. Always feel good songs.

Re: Selected Target stores only (86,465) (86,472) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Completely agree. Your comment about Cher was hilarious. I think there are many reasons why it's only 50.000. One is surely the disconnect not Mariah's age. I'm just happy that the horrible "management" from the last year is gone.

Interesting, didn't know it as well. Yes, Mariah and 2Pac. I once read 2Pac loved MC's "Vision of love".

Special K, I buy physical cd's. The streaming and only downloading is not my thing. I know I'm retro. The teenagers here are the same. Lol. They have only digital music and are listening with their smartphone. But a lot of grown-ups are buying cd's. And the vinyl is still a trend for music collectors. I can imagine a lot of teens would enjoy Mariah's new album.

Thanks for sharing your experience. You're lucky to have met her. I know how beautiful she really is, I could see it in concert where I had a good view. "We have an MC album for every mood" that's, true. Another thing I really love and appreciate.

Re: Giving Me Life (still) (86,388) (86,404) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Yes, Giving me life is very special (in a positive way), loved it from the beginning. It has the vibe of "The Roof" but the mood is even darker. I can't get this song out of my head. And a mini movie would be great. It is my favorite at the moment from the album. Followed by "Caution", "8th Grade", and "Portait". It's nice to see that "Giving Me Life" gets so much love from most of you.

Re: The other 6 songs (86,285) (86,384) by MusicfanJ from Germany
The same here. The song "Caution" gets better and better by each listen. I like the complete album except "GTFO". It seems a fan favorite from the beginning but somehow I'm not feeling this one at the moment.

I noticed the same here in Germany. I remember a time when they had many copies of her new album on the release date.

Re: A lengthy meditation on the album (86,306) (86,381) by MusicfanJ from Germany
"Why should we demand natural vocals when we accept synthetic music made entirely on computers?"

That's why I dream of an album with real instruments or even orchestral (no beats) and Mariah. The songs she did on Merry Christmas II are with the band are great. But of course this is nothing for most of the young listeners.

Re: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (86,375) (86,380) by MusicfanJ from Germany
How I love that song. When I first heard it, I got goosebumbs. It's like an angel is singing. The voice, so much power, the emotion is everything.

Re: A lengthy meditation on the album (86,370) (86,377) by MusicfanJ from Germany
"To question when Mariah let the glitter overpower the artist is perfectly fair. To say it's people merely living in the nineties who don't know who Mariah is, who should move on, is ad absurdum."

I completely agree with it. I found the original post from Chris1992 very interesting and not negative at all. It was heartfelt and I feel the same way on many things Chris1992 pointed out. Caution is a modern album and I do enjoy it. But it's true, the lyrics are very childish and superficial. Yes you can call it fun lyrics, but she used to write songs that were pure poetic. I mean "Heartbreaker" were fun too but on that album were "Petals", "CTTA", "AOO", "TGIFY" so there was a nice balance between ballads and "fun" tracks.

Re: 8th Grade (86,166) (86,174) by MusicfanJ from Germany
This song grows on me by every listen. It sounds even a bit like "Daydream Mariah" did a record in 2018. Timbaland never disappoints. I enjoy the whole album more and more.

Re: Portrait (86,153) (86,173) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Robert-Anthony thanks for the reply. Yes, the song is so emotional. I didn't expect it but without it, it wouldn't be a Mariah album. That's true with the voice, even if you just talk you can often hear if a person is going through something. "I reflect everyday on the portrait of my life." Most people do it, I'm sure. It makes us human. But only the intelligent ones reflect from time to time. What I love about Mariah is that she touches so many people's hearts (me included). I wish you a nice day. And keep enjoying Mariah.

Portrait (86,151) by MusicfanJ from Germany
First I love the song. For me it's the saddest song after "Looking in" and "Petals". I hear so much pain on it, it's almost heartbreaking. But honestly what is going on with her voice? At the end it sounds almost like it hurts to sing it that way.

Giving Me Life (86,057) by MusicfanJ from Germany
This song will get played a lot for the next days. The dark mood somehow totally gets me. When I thought it would end, that guitar started and the end with her whispery in the background. Magical song. I have so many pictures on my mind while listening. The Norma Jean reference suits perfect. I also start to enjoy "One mo gen".

Re: Caution review (86,028) (86,047) by MusicfanJ from Germany
After the first listen what comes to my mind is that the album sounds very modern. I'm surprised of the sound/vibe of it. It's definitely a new side of her music, almost a bit experimental. I'm happy that we got with "Portrait" one "classic" Mariah song. A song with more heart and soul and the lyrics are more my taste. And I love the violin at the end.

My favorites yet:
1. Portrait
2. Giving me life (wow, love at first listen)
3. The distance
4. Caution

The album is indeed very short, but "MIAMTEC" was the opposite so it's ok. I like that the lyrics are in the booklet. I missed them on "MIAMTEC". Does anybody know why the fans/lambs are not listed on the thank you notes of the booklet at the end? I'm just wondering.

I agree with her voice, she sounds good but sometimes a bit nasal. So for me it's not her "Thriller" but I'm happy with it. I'm sure after a few repeats of the whole album, there will come more to mind. So happy Caution Day for all of you.

Re: Ariana (85,907) (85,908) by MusicfanJ from Germany
To compare Mariah and Ariana is a joke. Sorry but this Disney kid is not a bit like Mariah. It's bubble gum pop with RnB elements. She tried to copy or was forced to copy I don't know, but she's not a real artist. Pretty and young with an ok voice that's all. That she is so hyped in the US, I can't understand. The teens in Europe know and love her of course too, but I don't know anyone who is listening her music. Lady Gaga has more fans here I guess.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey still gets "goosebumps" thinking about WBT (85,582) (85,589) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Yup, "My All" and "The Roof" that's what I call songwriting. Just genius. It's so poetic, I can feel every word from beginning to end.

Re: Edward Scissorhands (85,578) (85,587) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I saw this movie in cinema when I was a little kid. I was so frightened of Edward. Lol. At that time I didn't know Mariah. But it's really nostalgic that she's using it in her song.
