Would you rather? (72,313)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Would you rather Mariah have one more undeniably popular #1 hit song and then release an album that goes Gold based on the success of the song, or have an album that sells double Platinum but doesn't have any individual songs enter the Top 20 on Billboard?

The Engagement (72,215)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
If Mariah is going the "current" sexy route than she has to do it with this next era. I mean, once she turns 50 it wont work (it barely works now). But I do believe she has these next 2-3 years to be a bit more risky. I really hope if she's going this urban route she goes all the way for a new album. Do the rap album you've always wanted to do Mariah. Get YG, DJ Khalid, Travis Scott, Timbland, the Weeknd and please Lil Kim and go hard on the next album (and Beyonce if you can). It should be dark and angry. Talk about relationships in way you never have, talk about divorce and selfishness. Call the next Mariah Carey album "The Engagement".

What if she had gone the other way? (71,892)
by T from USA

We know know how Mariah's career has turned out in the last ten years but it's interesting to wonder what would things be like if she didn't take the E=MC2/Obsessed/I Don't route, but instead after she reached the highs of TEOM she went away and crafted a beautiful gospal album or a classic jazz record. Something where she wasn't pressured by chart success or needing to appear current and sexy for the videos or album covers. I know we wouldn't got that eighteenth number one. But what we would have is a Mariah that wouldn't have gone down the Madonna route in terms of sex appeal, and we would have a Mariah that is much more respected in general. OK scratch that - I like the eighteen number ones so maybe she could've started the mature act after 2008. BTW, who else thinks if "Obsessed" was on E=MC2 (instead of say Love Story) it would've been the most biting album of the year with almost every song hitting so hard?

Mariah on Dubai radio show (71,860)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
MC was interviewed on a radio show for a station where she's playing the festival at the end of next month. They did the interview on the weekend where she was shooting the video with YG. They asked her about collaborations and she said she might be working on one as they speak. Then the station tweeted that she's working with a long awaited collaboration but I think they have it wrong and they are just hyping up the fan base. I think Mariah was clearly talking about YG.

Tommy Mottola (71,798)
by T from USA

With Mariah now turning this all on James (even though we know she was one that was dumped) by saying how much hell he put her through. Now I'm starting to wonder if Tommy Mottola was really as bad as Mariah said he was. Or does she just have a pattern of playing the victim?

The song on the finale (71,754)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
It's going to be just a preview. And it's probably going to be the exact same amount of preview that we've seen already. The reason they are cleverly doing this is to get people to watch the show so the ratings are up on the finale and they can justify another season. They are tricking us. Trust me, if you don't like the show just wait for the same 30 second preview after it airs. Don't fall for this ratings ploy.

Re: Adele interview (71,745) (71,753)

It's what happens to most big pop stars on that level. MJ, Whitney Houston, etc. They start to loose touch of what made them who they were in the first place and I know everyone grows and changes but when they live in a bubble for so long the changes are weird and they affect the art. Madonna and Janet have seen their share of wacky periods but they've still always managed to keep their head on straight and their inner circle doesn't seem to dictate their lifestyle or burden their art. Mariah needs to get some real world experience. We know she's rich and a jet setter but that doesn't make good relating music. Otherwise she keeps rehashing songs from a time we could relate to her. I thought becoming a mother would change her in a way that Butterfly had, but it seemed to make her go the other way back into a Rainbow/Glitter time of sex appeal. She's 46 years old she should just make that one Rap album that's she's always wanted to make and get it out of her system. Get Travis Scott, YG, Nas, the Weeknd, and do it big. Because once she hits 50 I can't see anyone in the hip hop world taking her any kind of serious.

New music video (71,614)
by T from USA

Considering #Beautiful took two full days and over three weeks of post production to complete I'm a little worried about this one being done with a recording the whole song in 24 hours. Auld Lang Syn video comes to mind.

Lady Gaga Superbowl Mariah Carey (71,155)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I just had a thought, if there's any other singer out there who has shown so much respect (going to her shows, tweeting her and complimenting her so many times) it's Lady Gaga. Wouldn't it be wild if Lady Gaga feels just as bad for Mariah as we all do and offers her thirty seconds of her twelve minute set at the halftime show to prove to the world that she still has it. There's a rumor that Beyonce might do Telephone with her. Wouldn't it be the best if Mariah appears from a trap door through the stage and nails Emotions?

Voice mail, new team (71,016)

It was nice for Mariah to talk directly to us. It's been a while. In a dream world she would let go of being a "pop star" for a moment. Leave those stages for the JLo's and Rihanna's of the world. If only she would go back and make a solid music album. Something undeniably good. If only she could surround herself with LA Reid and Walter Afanasieff. I know a lot of fans have been asking for that for years but just imagine a ten track album of just her and Walter.

Was it the Jamaica concert where this same thing happened on the song Fantasy? I remember a viral moment from a couple years ago where it exposed her lip singing to a song.

Her former managers, I blame Jermaine Dupri (70,706)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
If he hadn't done such a bad job managing her in 2014 she would've never sought out Stella lol. Joke. But seriously people have been subtly, and not so subtly telling Mariah to straighten up for years now. Remember in 2015 when JD said Mariah needs to start taking her career more seriously and putting in the work that a legend needs to put in. Randy Jackson also tried to get her to focus and of course we all remember some of Walter A's concerns. I think this New Years thing was going to happen at some point, it's tragic that it was during one of her most biggest watched audience moments in the last ten years. This is one she needed to nail and it was the closest thing she would get to a "superbowl moment". It's only going to get worse from here on out I think. Tommy M was trying to shield her from all of this during the 1990's.

Mariah's only saving grace (70,688)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I have to say the only thing I can think of that may save this year for Mariah is for her to show up as a surprise performer at the Grammy's. Open the show with just a piano and a microphone and sing a tribute to George Micheal. Have his picture on the big screen and sing "One More Try". The song is probably the most relevant song to her right now if you listen closely to the lyrics.

One More Try at Grammys (70,320)
by T from USA
| |

|
If Stella was thinking she would get Mariah to perform "One More Try" at the Grammy's this year in tribute. Not only would it be a lovely moment, but it would also show the world the un-diva side of Mariah (and maybe even help sell MIAMTEC a little more). Make it happen.

Mariah Carey "C&D" (68,121)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I would love Mariah to eventually do a duets album, but also a covers album (because she has so many amazing covers). What better way to double sales then to do both in one amazing package, call it "Mariah C/D". 1. I Want To Know What Love Is (feat. Justin Bieber) 2. You And I (feat. Stevie Wonder) 3. With You I'm Born Again (feat. John Legend) 4. One More Try (feat. George Michael) 5. I Still Believe (feat. Beyonce) 6. Open Arms (feat. Celine Dion) 7. Bringing On The Heartbreak (feat. Mary J Blige) 9. Against All Odds (feat. Phil Collins) 10. Without You (feat. Kelly Clarkson) 11. Didn't Mean To Turn You On (feat. Bruno Mars) 12. I'll Be There (feat. Trey Lorenz) 13. The Beautiful Ones (feat. Dru Hill) 14. Endless Love (feat. Luther Vandros) 15. When You Believe (feat. Whitney Houston) 16. Heavenly No Ways Tired (feat. Aretha Franklin) I included "When You Believe" even though it's not a cover song but the duet is just too big not to have on there.

Mariah / Timbaland Jodeci's new album (67,375)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Has anyone listened to Jodeci's new album that was released last year? It is R&B magic (of course.). Most reviews gave it 4/5 stars and said how it just didn't try to recreate songs from the past but with Timbaland's help it actually sounded fresh and current while keeping it's roots in what they do best, R&B. I've wanted Mariah to work with Timbaland for so long, and hearing the little bit they did during the Memoirs era I really want them to work together. (I wish Skydiving made the tracklist.) Anyway, I know after MIAM was released, Timbaland tweeted how incredible the album was. I wouldn't mind if her new album is 90% produced by him. She needs to mix and up and he is a proven winner.

Mariah: Crystal vs Solange, a seat at the table (67,014)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I feel like both Crystal and Solange are great female song writers but if I could pick I would rather Mariah collaborate with Solange. To me Crystal brings the fun witty one liners but Solange's writings are much more raw and honest. We have E=MC2 and that's fine but I don't want another version. I rather have something more in line with "A Seat at the Table". PS. I love Mariah's work with Walter A and if there was a chance for one more collaboration (or even just a sit down writers' session) I would totally be down for that.

If they all are saying the same thing (53,887)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Walter Afansieff, Boyz II Men and now JD. All her former close relationships are saying basically the same thing. Mariah has so much potential. Wasted. The turn around happened in 2008 after she got married. I remember she said on Oprah in 2002 (when Charmbracelet came out) that she's finally learned to slow down and say "no". However, it seems she's taken that to the extreme by 2009 and just didn't take anything seriously anymore. I was shocked with the lack of promo for Memoirs. Then MCIIY she seemed somewhat back but MIAMTEC was a disaster. If she doesn't start treating it like the '90s or 2005 then I think she should pull a Shania Twain go on one more world tour and then peace out. At least she will save her legacy if #1's is her last big promo push. She could've had the world by the ears at this years "return to the Billboard Awards" and yet it was just meh. Not bad but nothing to talk about either. She was given the chance and she just didn't deliever. 25 years is a long career, and fulfilling. I won't be mad if she retired after Vegas in February. I would always have the memories.

Infinity music video (52,899)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah confirmed that she's shooting the video this week. That's exciting. I just had an idea that I think would be bring together past and present and tie right into her #1's project. She should bring back every "villian" or douche boyfriend from every video she's done. (The two bodyguards in Honey, the cheater in Heartbreaker, Eric Roberts, Wentworth Miller, compu-nerd, the obsessed stalker and Bianca). Out of all those only "Obsessed" isn't part of her #1's but I would still include him because it would be hilarious. Many of those people were in Bret directed videos as well. She could use Infinity to bring them all back and kick them all to the curb.

Infinity to #1 (52,277)
by T from USA
| |

|
Guys, it is really important to report all illegal links to the song starting tomorrow. Any YouTube videos with altered pitches get them broken. This is what Taylor Swift fans do and it works very well in making her songs chart higher with more success. A fan doesn't help Mariah when they make videos with altered pitches. That will turn some buyers off because it doesn't sound like her. Report it. That way Mariah's Vevo account can get all the views and it will help with the charts. Steam legally and remember to buy the single. This new song will be very important to Mariah's future with Sony.

Mariah's new look with Brett (50,683)

I think it's because she's covered up that we can actually pay attention to her natural beauty. I'm all for Mariah bringing back a more demure covered up classic Mariah look for the next era. I think people would really dig her again.

I'm all for Walter A (50,678)
by T from USA

I wouldn't want a whole album produced by him but at least 3 songs on full length album would be nice. I'm just worried she would be embarrassed working with him because he's going to expect a lot from her and maybe she knows her voice just can't do all the things it could do from 1990-Butterfly.

Mariah, Timbaland, Empire (50,659)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
My dream would be that Mariah Carey seizes the moment and gets into the studio with Timabaland. He's doing big things right now in music and the show Empire (which is a highly rated popular TV show right now). Mariah's been invited to guest on the show and since Tim is the musical director it would make sense that a song they produce together is featured. It would make a perfect track for #1's and would pretty well guarantee Mariah shoot to the top of the charts, where she belongs. Let's all tweet to Mariah with the hastag: #MariahTimbalandSong. It's just the right move at this point.

More #1's (50,336)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Out of these #2/#3 songs (Can't Let go, Without You, Loverboy, Shake It Off) I wish at least Without You went to #1, for me it's an honorary #1 hit (especially since it went to the top spot in the UK). I think that would've been a good addition to her Billboard #1's. I would've like Loverboy as well, not because I think it's a great song but lots of #1's aren't great songs. But I do think it would've lessened her big failure that year. I was sure Shake It Off was going #1. I also think her label (and herself) missed a huge opportunity with #Beautiful. She had American Idol. She should've booked a performance with Miguel during one live broadcast at least. I wish she milked that show more for the single because it might be Mariah's last chance at a hugely popular song.

All we need is one more #1 (50,181)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
If Mariah can somehow get one more #1 hit then she will forever go down as the top female artist ever. After everything she's been through I would love to see her on the top spot again, and I hope the song is for the #1's re-release because I would hate for her to get her #19 after that re-release and then not have a complete #1's setlist on one album again. Question, if Mariah's next song when to #1 on Billboard 100 would you rather it be a catchy sing-a-long midtempo, a hot "of the moment" uptempo, or a classic ballad?
