Re: The Busta song (75,524) (75,531)

I think it was some kind of weird co-project between the two of them set up by Reid and DJ Khaled at Epic. Mariah does have some say in it I'm sure because she was going to drop it at the end of the month that her tour was starting. I read somewhere that it was supposed to coincide with her tour. She may feel like she can't promote it properly without the tour behind her so they are holding off (for now).

Where did this Mariah go? I love this review of MIAM, and I love how focused she was.

Mariah loosing a lot of fans (75,520)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
From what I read around the Internet and talking to various people outside of the Internet it seems that Mariah is loosing tons of fans and at a rapid rate. If this continues she may not [have] very many left by next year. I think she should hurry and get that album out this year as she still has somewhat of a fan base and plus with Katy Perry flopping there is litterally no other female compitition on the horizon. This might be her best chance.

The Busta song (75,519)

It was said the song was supposed to come out right before her tour with Lionel Ritchi [sic]. But once that got pushed back so did the song I guess. Maybe we'll hear it in August then.

Re: Interesting LA Reid article (75,501) (75,518)

I also think that promises were made from Doug Morris to LA Reid that once he steps down LA would take the reigns as top boss. But this business is so shady they say one thing and do another. To be fair Striger ran a way better Columbia than Reid did at Epic so the right man got the job. Then of course as to not look embarrased Sony leaks "stories" about sexual harrassment. But watch nothing will happen going forward.

Signature song (75,300)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah has had so many hits that picking a signature song is almost impossible for her. I wonder what she would consider her signature song? Or at least want everyone to acknowledge as her signature? I think you have to break it down into three categories: 1. Commercial success, 2. Artistic expression, 3. Legacy. It can be argued that either Hero or WBT are her signature song because of their chart success. But at the same time Butterfly is her bold artistic expression that has symbolized her life and career to this day. Then there's always the legacy song's Vision of Love and AIWFCIY that could take the spot as her one signature song. For me it's one of those five songs. Don't ask me to pick. And that's not even talking about Fantasy and ABMB which could have a solid case made for then as well.

Re: Ultimate Mariah Carey poll (75,295)

So I guess we can all agree that if we were to take Mariah's top 5 ballads of her career in terms of fan favorite, the order would go: 1) Butterfly 2) Vision of Love 3) We Belong Together 4) Hero 5) My All That's what I got from the poll.

The ultimate Mariah Carey song poll (75,271)
by T from USA

Let's see which song gets the most votes of arguably the three greatest ballad songs in Mariah's catalogue and possibly the three biggest milestone songs in her career. If you could only pick one: Vision of Love, Butterfly, We Belong Together.

Ummmmm... Infinity, (Infinity Remix), Infamous, I Dont ("I Dont Remix"). Those were her last three outputs. Right now I don't think she's doing herself any favors by releasing subpar material. The next song Mariah releases needs to be a return to form.

It was supposed to come out before her March tour but once that got postponed so did the single. Now that LA Reid is gone I fear we will never hear it. But maybe that's for the best?

He was, but he wasn't the head of Universal. That was Doug Morris. Then Doug Morris moved to Sony to become the head of Sony and hired LA Reid to head the "Epic" label. Last month Doug Morris stepped down as big boss at Sony but instead of promoting Reid to the position he chose the head of "Columbia" instead.

LA Reid out, Mariah in trouble? (75,248)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
It's being reported that LA Reid left Sony amist sexual harrasment claims made by a female employee. It's rumored that he may be going over to Warner. The article also says that this could be bad news for the newly re-singed Mariah Carey as he was one of the last people left who believes in her. Mariah can't handle even one more "MIAM" type era with uncertainty and disorganization. (It would actually be her third strike in this department; 1. Glitter 2. MIAMTEC.) Do you think Mariah should break from her Sony contract for good and follow Reid to Warner Bros.?

Billboard's 2017 Power 100 (75,227)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
So the annual power list was released from Billboard this year and guess what? No Stella. But in all seriousness a name that has never left the top 100 since I've been checking for years is Irving Azoff. (This year he places at no.6 right behind Rob Stringer, new boss of Sony records.) Mariah had him as a manager (with Randy Jackson) from November 2011 to sometime in 2013. I can only only imagine how things would've turned out if she stayed with the two of them. Sure Randy had two misses, the Bieber duet and A.I. but he was instrumental in the early stages of MIAM album. I remember I hated this article so much but now in hindsight (and Stella) I wish I could go back in time.

LA may have left on his own (75,225)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
When Doug Morris stepped down as ultimate leader at Sony records I have a feeling LA Reid (close personal friend of Morris) thought he would be next in line. I mean he's worked so long in this industry and the top job would be the last thing he had left to fulfill in his storied career. But instead it went to Stringer, the main guy at the sibling label Columbia. I can see how ego's can get in the way and tempers could flare causing Reid to leave.

Exactly. Even if Mariah is game to still release the album she's working on, does everyone remember what happened with Glitter? Virgin records was going through some major management resructuring during that time period and Mariah didn't have any one real label head for guidence. This could end up being a big mess for MC.

LA Reid out is bad news for MC (75,171)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Do we need to remember what happened when LA Reid left Island/Def Jam? Barry Weiss (head of JIVE) came in and replaced him. Well it was clear from the get go that Mariah had no interest in working with him and stalled and delayed the album until he finally lost his post and she released it with Steve Bartles who she was semi okay with. Mariah is very untrust worthy and doesn't like working with people she's not comfortable with or feels who are trying to control her. This could mean a big delay for the 20th anniversary of the Butterfly album, new project. PS. Barry Weiss was instrumental with some of the biggest and most successful albums at his previous label and still Mariah wanted no part of his input, she even went as far as executive producing the album all by herself.

Re: LA Reid has no choice (74,535) (74,551)

I don't know, she did way more promotion for MIAMTEC than she did for Memoirs if I remember correctly. For Memoirs she was so caught up in Precious and her new perfume. All the promo appearances were either pushed back and cancelled. Yes she had more singles that were released but none were really promoted heavily with the exception of Obsessed. For MIAMTEC, the promo actually started with American Idol and #Beautiful, then she went on to promote #B a lot. With YME she did tons of radio interviews and even appeared at the World Music Awards. She even lit up Times Square. That would be excellent promo imo for a new album, but first and foremost the songs have to connect to the people.

LA Reid has no choice (74,531)
by T from USA
| |

None of his artists (including JLo) are really panning out right now. He has a global superstar on his roster, someone who can actually sell and has a proven track record of that (200 million albums and records sold). So he has to put all his eggs in the MC basket. What Mariah has to do to fulfill her end of the agreement is create the songs. The songs she is capable of making. Yes some clever collaborations with the hottest quality artists but also ballads like "Butterfly", and "If It's Over". Songs that make you feel something no matter who you are. She also has to be able to put her full energy into promoting. Which has never really been a problem for her (even MIAMTEC had some promotion). She'll have to step it up though.

Anything new (74,466)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Anything new from Mariah at this point will be welcomed. The last time(s) she's switched it up were Butterfly and TEOM. Other than that it's been a lot of the same old Mariah Carey. She needs to take this new album in a direction to change things drastically. (While maintaining who she is.) That can mean go completely neo soul new age R&B, or even "hardcore" A/C. Just something that is not expected and will turn people's heads again. I would even take EDM Mariah if that means she excites people again like she used to in the old days.
