Play this song (111,449)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

Of course he has a crush on her. Who has not? But I really hope they are not dating. A grown-up woman doesn't need another fan-boy. She's had enough of them and it didn't work. So I wish she finds an equal partner, who's not only admiring but a grown-up man who is true and not just playing. A stable character, down to earth and really caring not just for the fame, money and prestige Mariah is giving "automatically".

Play this song (111,429)
by Giovanni from USA

I made the mistake of not turning the volume off my phone before I went on Mariah's Insta and well I heard a little of "Play this song". It's sounds pretty good and has the potential to help the album. I have to say by seeing the short video clip Anderson .Paak looks so happy with Mimi. I think he has a crush on her and I wouldn't be surprised if they were secretly dating. I've never seen someone smile so much for Mariah probably since Bryan. What do y'all think?

Good critics for the new album (111,367)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
I was surprised to read good critics about her new album in a German online newspaper today (Welt-News) which I wanted to share with you. The critic wrote, he was able to hear the album in advance and was very pleased. It's a combination of RnB, powerballads, adult-contemporary and hip-hop influences. So everything she's known for and loved the last 35 years. He also said "Here for it all" is one of her best ballads and worth the wait. Wow, now I have high expectations. He liked the self-irony of some of her lyrics which is very rare for a non-fan too. I was almost shocked to read something so positive. So now I can't wait to hear the full album like in the good old days.

Album length (111,309)
by Bill from the UK

I get why some of you may be disappointed by the album's length, especially due to the time we've patiently waited for new material. I for one don't mind it. The appeal of Caution was how concise it was and that it felt like a tight, deliberate production. Shorter albums are easier to spin for me. As I don't do playlists and listen to an album end to end, it's much easier for me to play Emotions, Daydream or Unplugged than it is to book an afternoon off work to listen to the 97 tracks on Charmbracelet, and sit there watching my hair turn grey as she enters into the whispery chorus of Lullaby for the 27th time. Okay, you should just hug him goodbye. I get it.

That's good to know. I prefer longer albums and songs. I want something for my money. Lol. But seriously 2.49 is really short for a song. The same with "Type Dangerous", it should have been 30 seconds longer for my taste. Do we get one "Beautiful ones" running time for compensation? Maybe the gospel song? Oh I checked it. The one I was looking for is "Here for it all" with 6:37 minutes.

The song lengths have been posted on the Wikipedia entry for the album. The album is listed at 39:44 length, and "Mi" is listed at "2:49". Looks like this album is almost as short as "Caution" was... if those lengths are accurate.

My prayer (111,287)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |

Absolutely. After the nightmare with Ike, Tina had this wonderful second husband. Mariah so deserves a husband like him too. Mariah is the queen of love songs, that's why it's even more sad what happened to her with men in her own private life. This one soul-mate must be out there. I believe it's the complete opposite of her "type".

Me too. That's my biggest prayer for Mariah. That she will meet her soul mate and they will be happy and content for the rest of their lives. Someone like Tina Turner's second husband. You could tell he adored her. Mariah writes a lot of songs about love so I think deep inside it's what she truly desires.

What's wrong with Mariah (111,272)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|

I would say the high heels could cause it, there are poison for the feet. But at the age of 30/31, that's hard to believe. I know a woman who had that hip sugery at 56 which is very "young" too. She always had high heels on. I will never understand why damage the foot just for a certain look. I can understand if a woman is very small and wants to look higher, but for a tall woman it makes no sense. You can wear chic shoes with a small heel, boots or cool sneakers, they even makes you younger. So it's a win-win.

This video claims she had hip replacement surgery back in 2000? That sounds pretty outlandish - having hip replacement at the age of 30/31. What possibly could have been happening at that time to cause such a surgery? Doesn't make any sense to me.

99 was a fun year to be a Mariah fan. Rainbow was the most pop album from her with a touch of RnB. But it made sense, it was the time of Britney Spears and boybands. So 98 Degrees were a perfect match for "TGIFY". Joe was also a good choice. It's not one of her top 5 number one songs, but it's a cute little song. The remixes are really good. RnB at its best.

That's my biggest wish for Mariah, to find a real partner/man. (Beside health of course, the most important thing.) Not a clown or another player or wannabe. I think Mariah's chosen men are mostly awful. The same with Mr. Anderson, I hope they only make music together. Just business. For a serious partner, he's a no no. Bryan and Mariah were a beautiful couple. He seemed like he really cared for her. And as a human he seemed to have a good heart and spirit. It's so sad it didn't work. I remember the little video where they were playing table-tennis together. Mariah was looking so happy and normal. No diva, just a woman who enjoys the time with her man.

I agree, Bryan is fine and dresses decent compared to Anderson. Mariah looked so happy when they were together. I really wish they were still a thing because they made a great couple. I truly felt Bryan really loved her and wasn't out for her money etc. For a while I felt MC had finally found her man but I guess maybe Bryan wanted a family or there were other reasons why they broke up. Even with Nick I never really cared for him or took him serious because he was sort of goofy, and well look what happened he cheated on her. Like how dare you. I do hope Mariah finds love again one day and that it lasts.

Mariah in Brazil (111,241)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

Yes, I remember you're right. But this "eternally twelve thing" is also unhealthy and a bit weird. It means that you are responsible for nothing because you're a kid. The same with the time. Nothing's wrong with growing older and wiser. When Mariah was very young she seemed very wise and smart. I'm just tired of MC being obsessed with eternally 12. As you wrote after Crustella it was the worst. And Nick was also a nightmare at the end.

What do you think about the Vegas shows? Good idea, yes or no and why? A friend of mine wanted to go to the New York show last year, Beacon theatre I guess. I went to the Christmas show in Berlin a few years ago (2018), and the show was really good and the Christmas spirit was there. It was also fun to see Bryan Tanaka and even the kids were on stage too. Time flies.

Brazil concert (111,213)

So true. When I was very young (90ies) I always thought there's nothing better than being a superstar. Young and naïve as I was. I admired so many celebraties. Now that I'm a grown-up (well most of the time) I don't want to change my "normal" life for a minute with the madness of a superstar. Most of them are totally broken by fame and money and false friends. I would take some money to travel more, but the fake and superficial world is nothing I would like to have. They are often so rich, but poor inside. Plus the paparazzi everywhere, horrible. What I like nowadays are stars that are still down to earth and know that the showbusiness is fake and can be even dangerous. Musicians and actors who are saying they are just doing their job and still have a normal life beside the showbusiness. There are a few luckily. These have never problems with any medicine, drugs or whatever. I can understand that a young Justin Bieber or a teen Britney Spears got broken. The same with MJ, all the stars that started at kid's age. But adults should be able to find a way to be creative without being damaged completely. It's too sad indeed.

I hope it's not because of opiads. My grandma needs to take them but she's ill and 92. Is there no chance that a broken shoulder can heal? Do you think the shoulder still hurts? I think it was too much with the loss of her mother and the Bryan break-up. When Edith Piaf lost her love, the famous boxer Marcel, she was never the same. I know off-topic but I had to think of her because I watched the movie "La vie en rose" which is fantastic as a music bio pic. But back to Mariah, I hope she's okay and feels better soon.

Mariah has been looking at the monitor ever since 2013 when she went viral for forgetting the lyrics on tour to WBT. Something happened after her fall and broken shoulder. I always suspected they gave her some serious pain killer stuff to keep her going as she is a business that just cannot turn off the lights especially in the middle of promoting an album. Maybe she got hooked on something like opioids? Maybe she still has the addiction and that is why she is being moved from spot to spot by Michael Richardson. He was also moving her around in the same fashion in 2000/2001 when she was carrying around that pink Hello Kitty boom box. We all remember how the end of 2001 went. I wonder how it will end this time.

To be honest is mostly the best thing to do. At a certain age you should be able to speak the truth. Plus it often takes away negative critics, but if not a lot of people will be harsh and criticise even more. Mariah should be more honest at least. It's not always easy but better for the soul. I hope she gets more open about what's wrong.

To be honest, I liked the short jumpsuit, because I hated the leotard moments from 2017. But I will say this VMA jumpsuit is a little too short. The right length was one she wore at Brighton Pride, purple and blue gradient ensemble. Though, I'm happy no one is roasting her like when Madonna wears something outrageous because Mariah actually looks good. The "give it up" commentaries are nowhere to be found.

Daydream (110,973)

But "Long ago" sounds more urban than "Slipping away". Anyway I think "Daydream" is pure perfection as it is. But it's interesting that "Open arms" seems to be a less favourite here. For me it's one of her best covers. It's on the top 5 for sure.

Daydream (110,971)
by Lambi from USA
| |
|
|
I can see that. Honestly, I'm not a fan of Open Arms, the original, either. Or anyone else who did it. Mariah simply did it the best. In a way, she kind of ruined other artists for me. She gives so much on each song that I simply will not accept that little from anyone.
And yes, One Night and Slipping Away are some of her best works, definitely deserving to be on the album. Anyone who says it doesn't fit the "theme" is full of it because Daydream doesn't have a real cohesive theme to begin with. The songs are all over the place in terms of instrumentation, emotional tone and lyrical content. They're all so random:
• Fantasy: Romantic escapism • UTS: Nostalgic young love • OSD: Loss and mourning • Open Arms: Longing for reconciliation • ABMB: Lasting emotional connection • I Am Free: Spiritual liberation • When I Saw You: Love at first sight • Long Ago: Painful memories • Melt Away: Sensual romance • Forever: Enduring separation
One Night could easily jive with Underneath The Stars because Mariah would be consistent. You should aspire for a UTS kind of love and not give away your goods. They're cut from the same cloth, just different shades. Slipping Away, a pre-break up emotional detachment song, could easily jive with ABMB, the post-break up song. They're part one and part two of the same story.
They simply weren't included because they sounded too Urban R&B and Tommy didn't want her that direction. But nobody could stop Mariah anyway and she kind of already hit an R&B stride with ABMB. The sound was already shifting. Leaving them off wasn't about cohesion but limiting Mariah. They should've just included them because they would've made the album even stronger.

"I had never witnessed anything like that I'm just being my normal self going to Burger King wild'n out, jumping on all the cars, smoking weed, drinking, having a good time, just talking shit." I had the exact feelings during Daydream. "I wondered what it must feel like to be her. Like, to be that beautiful and be able to sing like that." I coulnd't believe how a woman can look so good and sing with a voice like that. It was unbelievable, the talent, the look, her eyes, her smile, her classy clothes, the lyrics, the melodies of the songs. Daydream had something magical. I've never seen a singer like Mariah before. She had everything, it was almost surreal. Of course she's still wonderful, but during Daydream there came "everything" together. Really almost too perfect. And I loved her little shyness back then, it was so sweet.

I just played it and it took me through a time warp to when I was a tween. When I first got Daydream, I mostly listened to it on my Walkman. Absolutely. "My all" is one of her best. The song and video, pure art. Her live versions are fantastic, I love them all. The one from the Pavarotti benefit concert, I can't get over it. Lol. I watch it over and over again. The beginning with the high note, the "shocked" audience, the look like a goddess, the smile and the house mix outro. I miss the Butterfly voice too. It wasn't so powerful like from "Music Box" or "Daydream" but still outstanding. The more vulnerable tone was touching my heart.

Agree. Had this been '96 Tokyo Dome Emotions Mariah, it would've been perfect. She could be a guest star though, like that short number moment with Latto in BET. But Mariah being lazy for a 15 minute set, in front of all of America, on the most watched live TV event, on the biggest gig a star could possibly get, is a no no. However, I don't think there's any leg to this. Even Mariah said herself, "I don't want a stressful moment."

That is one of the worst Mariah videos ever. That and Auld Lang Syne. I can't believe she's in it, when I first saw it. She looked great, but it's like low budget and shot on an iPhone. At least Auld Lang Syne is camp.

You aren't wrong. Beyoncé is overrated and I don't know why there's still such a hype. It can't be because of the music only. Someone wrote here, she has a great management and image. I loved her music when she's was with Destiny's Child. That was perfect produced late 90ies RNB. Every song a hit and radio friendly. But as a solo artist, there's nothing really special. That "Texas" song was cool but so many Grammys? It's not fair. But maybe it's because she's such a beautiful woman and good dancer, so it's enough for the people to get entertained. Compared to Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Glady's Knight, these are the vocal queens beside Mariah. Sade is another great female singer. Her tone is beautiful and so relaxed.

Why is Beyoncé way higher than Mariah (and a lot of the other producers on this list)? I read (on Reddit a long time ago) that she doesn't even write her songs. I read she changes a few words and claims credit. That's her contribution. Are we living in the upside down? How can she, in good conscience, even accept that honor? Does she even deserve all those Grammys she has? She has a great voice, and some great songs, but is she actually the producer? I don't follow her that closely, so please somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
