Gorgeous, eloquent, candid Mariah in this interview. I can't get my head around how gorgeous she is here. Just look at her eyes, her smile. What a beauty.

A very impressive performance, which also bridges Daydream with Butterfly.

Make It Happen remix / sample (73,968)
by Billy from Greece

First of all, happy birthday to MC. Yay, hooray, happy anniversary, big hair, short shirts, whatever. On a sidenote, you can check the following 1980s R&B lbanger and possibly discern the foundation of the super hot tamale remix of Make It Happen.

If only MC would work with them again. I don't just adore the two tracks they've done with Mariah, but also all of the other productions they have done. They also produced a good chunk of Allure's first album back in the day, from Mariah's Crave label, remember? Such a timeless and mellow R&B vibe.

"One Sweet Day (Chucky's Remix)" (73,432)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
Am I the only one who prefers this remix over the album version? The intro and alternate, more subdued vocals in the first chorus and verse make this version significantly more appealing to me, not to mention the more R&B-leaning beat.

Michael Jackson (73,063)
by Billy from Greece
| |

This is totally irrelevant but since the issue of lip-syncing keeps coming up on this board every now and then, I'm wondering how come in the case of Michael Jackson, who from the 1990s onwards was lip-syncing ninety percent of his shows, it was never an issue. Sure, he was a dancer as much as he was a singer, but you get my point.

Nose (73,060)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
I've been wondering for a while whether MC has had a nose job. Sometimes, it looks just as it's always been so we can assume it is make-up and camera angles that makes it look different, or just the way her face has changed over the years. Some other times, though, it looks significantly thinner and smaller. Not that it matters, but occasionally it confuses me. If she's had one, she probably had it before the Charmbracelet era kicked in judging from the photos available. I don't know.

Does anyone remember which is the interview where MC talks about "middle America" sort of being shocked by the Honey remix video, seeing her sitting on Mase's lap? Thanks.

"I Don't" Jimmy Kimmel (72,731)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
She was wonderful, especially considering that it was the first major live performance after New Year's. I loved the way she sounded on the verses, her darker and huskier tone truly on display, and she was in control of her voice. Some nervousness did come across, mainly because of the super tight dress I think which barely allowed her to move. There was some backing track on the first part of the chorus, but she seemed well-rehearsed and determined and thankfully it is a song that she can support live, and she proved it. Also, although I'm not sure if it comes across from TV performances, but the whole MC band is really on point, which I witnessed first hand in the SSFT, and the background singers always have specific little dance routines for every song, adding to an overall "tight" band. Yay MC "I Don't" live. It sounds better than I expected.

"Mariah's un-shadiest moment" (72,701)

This is for those who lately seem to reiterate the popular opinion that MC is a mean bitch, who is so insecure that she'll shade people for no reason. Girlfriend is just keeping it real.

Memoirs era interview (72,562)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
It really tickles me the wrong way to think that "Memoirs" was quite some time ago at this point. I just can't with how quickly time goes by, I just can't. I remember catching MC on the Alan Carr show on TV in my hotel room in the UK when the show first aired, which was either before or after the Westfield London event where I met her (yes, I'm repeating myself, I know). Anyway, rewatching this interview is so much fun. There's something so easygoing and playful about her during that era. Has it been almost eight years since "Memoirs"? Lord help me.

Mariah all wet, on top of the limo, in that rainy urban background, might as well be the best visual of any of her videos ever.

"Dedicated" / Wu-Tang Clan 1993 (72,524)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
I need a hip-hop connoisseur here. So, "Dedicated" samples Wu-Tang Clan's "Da Mystery of Chessboxin" which came out in 1993. The latter song contains the lyric "rap styles vary, and carry like Mariah", part of which was interpolated in "Dedicated". My question: did Wu-Tang simply namedrop Mariah in "Da Mystery", or does this "Mariah" have another reference/connotation?

"I Don't" (72,095)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
Though the song's main appeal stems from the Donell Jones sample (which is also its main melodic hook), I have to admit that it is unpredictably addictive and I keep pushing the repeat button. The beat is cool and deep, very vibey. The rap I could do without, though it is so bad it kinda sticks with you too. The video is a total whatever-fest, though that last scene by the fire brings in mind Diana Ross's "Swept Away" (which is also a total camp fest) and it is sort of vamp, in lack of a better word. I'm just going to listen to the song for the fifth time now, ok?

Great interview / early 2010s (71,606)
by Billy from Greece

Remember this? Just under a year after she had given birth I think. She's so sweet here. Not sure the Toure guy is very much of a fan, but you can she sort of won him over with her personality.
