Mariah on Vibe's "Juice" list

In the September 2005, 12th Anniversary Juice Issue of Vibe, Mariah is ranked #43 in the magazine's 100 Hottest People, Places, and Things.

In celebration of Mimi

We pay homage to the zany diva with the multi-octave range and impeccable songwriting skills by remembering Mariah Carey's 10 juiciest moments. Mariah announces her split from Tommy Mottola in 1997, ending what she calls a "stifling" marriage. No wonder the songstress dubbed their Bedrofd, N.Y., mansion "Sing Sing".

In the 1997 video for "Honey", a newly unattached Madame Butterfly, wearing Gucci stilettos and a killer cream Bond-girl bikini top, struts the stuff Mottola supposedly tried so desperately to keep under wraps.

MC and Derek Jeter set the tabloids ablaze with their sizzling 1997-'98 romance. The relationship strikes out after less than a year. A year later, she steals Mexican balladeer Luis Miguel's corazón. They're seen canoodling everywhere from Aspen to Acapulco.

Mariah kicks her evil alter ego's butt in a bathroom catfight in 1999's "Heartbreaker". She baffles MTV TRL host Carson Daly and audiences worldwide with her sudden striptease and popsicle-distributing spectacle in 2001, claiming, "I just want one day off when I can... eat ice cream and look at rainbows."

After leaving ominous voice messages on her Web site ("I'm trying to understand things in life right now..."), Mariah is hospitalized for "extreme exhaustion". Her breakdown comes before Glitter's spectacular lack of box-office sparkle.

Virgin signs Mariah for a reported $80 million in 2001, one of the biggest record deals in history. After her meltdown, the label pays her $28 million to bounce. She finds a cozier home at Island Def Jam.

In Rolling Stone, Eminem insinuates he dated Mariah, but then says, "I just don't like her as a person." She strikes back with "Clown", on 2002's Charmbracelet.

Mottola calls this year's The Emancipation of Mimi "her best work yet". But in the "We Belong Together" video, Mariah, in the same Vera Wang gown she wore for her actual wedding to Mottola in '93, runs away from a visibly older man.

In the same issue, on page 74, "Vibe Raters" Staff's Playlist: Serena Kim, Features Editor lists Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" and says, "She channels the legends beautifully." And on page 238, "20Q": Question #16 is about Mariah: "Do all the haters who talked trash about Mariah Carey feel stupid now that she's on top of her game?"
