Mariah vs Madonna
Recently, SoundScan reported that Madonna was the #1 selling female recording artist in America (although Mariah has sold the most records world-wide). Undray Whitehead (AgentMDunce), a member of Mariah's fan club, called SoundScan and found out that many fans misunderstood the reports regarding sales in the United States.
What the staff member from SoundScan said was that Madonna has indeed shipped more records however, Mariah sold more. To clarify, that means that more Madonna records have been shipped out to cd stores to sell, but Mariahs cd's have sold more at the cd stores.
Also, he found that Billboard claims that world-wide cd sales are not tabulated by any one organization, so it is almost impossible to calculate which artist has sold the most albums throughout the entire world. We have, however, found a way of calculating (quite accurately) the US record sales, in addition to the record sales in most other countries.
