Savuto meets Carey
It was never in Savuto Vakadewavosa's dream he would meet one of the world's renowned singer, Mariah Carey, late last year. That one-off meeting has inspired the talented Fijian singer to work hard in achieving the best in his singing career and this, he revealed is something he is working on right now.
Describing the scene, Savuto said: "I was in awe. I mean who would have thought that a young lad from the beautiful little Fiji would get the opportunity to meet an international artist. A list best selling recording artist of all time who has influenced the world and music in so many ways. I spent almost 10 minutes with her and for the first minute I was silent being super star struck. She was so kind and very bubbly and she was just as you saw her on television, real and very gorgeous."
Savuto, who is known for his latest hit, Sa Cariba said Carey shared she had always wanted to visit Fiji and the closest she had ever got was the Fiji Water which she drank all the time. He shared that one thing led to another when he met the super star.
"A big lesson that I learned from meeting Mariah Carey was the fact that no matter how big you become in life, you've got to keep it real, stay humble and always be very hands-on with what you do because if you want something done, you have to do it do yourself. If you want something you have to be a go-get-it type of person with a can-do attitude. She gave me the boost to be even more determined and confident to get my music out there and to think outside of the box and really made me realise that anything is possible."
Savuto said Carey had always been one of his biggest influences as far as song writing and composing went. He said most of the lyrics in Mariah Carey's songs were inspiring and very powerful - adding it to her amazing, incomparable voice.
After this meeting with the sensational international artist, Savuto said he would love to create a standard set-up whether it be for a full band, two piece or just backing track. All these he explained would still need great sound, good lights, and some nice visuals to go with it if possible.
"One thing I learned is to always have a neat set-up and most important a great sound and some good show structure which means a lot of rehearsal time where you lock in your performance rundown so to speak. For me, my major issue is my time and procrastination. This has always been one of my issues and it is something I continuously am working on and God willing I improve. But for the time being I'm never late but it's just that everyone is simply early," he joked.
Flying back from Brisbane the following day, Savuto couldn't get the meeting out of his head. He believes, it has challenged him to lift his career another notch. Savuto hopes to meet Carey again in the near future. (Fiji Times)
