Mariah Carey offers "Rainbow" connection
It's no surprise that Mariah Carey, the biggest-selling female artist of the decade, turned to Microsoft, the biggest software company on the planet, to preview a song from Rainbow, the Grammy-winning artist's first studio album since 1997's Butterfly.
"Heartbreaker," written and produced by Carey, will make its debut on MSN when most of her fans are just getting in from a night on the town. At 6 a.m. EDT, on Monday, Aug. 16, the first five-octave strains of the new song will zip across the Web at www.windowsmedia.com/mariah.
Netheads who have downloaded Microsoft's Windows Media player will get to listen via streaming audio for twelve hours before Bill Gates pulls the track down. Fans will then be able to preview the song on demand at WindowsMedia.com until Aug. 20. In case you just can't wait until Monday, MSN has put up a thirty-second a capella preview of the song (as well as sounds of the singer cooing sweet nothings), which you can listen to right now.
If you want some visuals to go along with these audio thrills, MTV will premiere the video of "Heartbreaker" on Monday. The clip was directed by Brett Ratner and features Carey pal/multi-platinum rapper Jay-Z. The music channel will also include some behind the scenes stuff in a segment on the "Making of a Video."
