Mariah declares "You're Mine (Eternal)" on new single
Mariah Carey's new single, "You're Mine (Eternal)", is a breathy, enjoyably straightforward love ballad that previews her endlessly delayed fourteenth studio album, which is now due out on May 6. "I can't seem to live without your love," Carey sings on the track, her heavenly vocals lingering on each syllable as she realizes her devotion in real-time. "You're Mine (Eternal)" could have hummed forward to turn into a sleepy R&B track, but thankfully, Carey gets to operate over some stormy production and percolating beats before nailing that inevitable high note in the final minute. If she performs this thing live, you better not have any glass in the nearby area.
The follow-up to 2009's "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" has now been previewed with three tracks that will presumably make the final track list: "You're Mine (Eternal)", "The Art of Letting Go" and her Miguel duet "#Beautiful", which was a Top 20 hit on the Hot 100 chart. The album was originally due out last July, but received an early May release date earlier this week.
Carey announced the new single on Monday (February 10) through a retrospective, Hot 100-heavy teaser video. (Billboard)
